The Youngsville Public Library was initially organized in 1931 and was housed in the Robert C. Mead's drug store. It consisted of 50 books on loan from the state lending library. By 1939, through donations of used books made by residents of Youngsville, the library outgrew its single shelf in the back of the drug store and moved across the street to the old National Bank Building.

In the 1940's, the library made a second move and a brief period as a membership-by-subscription library. In 1951, it was incorporated, and five years later, following a bequest from the estate of Nora Russell, the Library Board of Directors were able to purchase the H.H. Hull property on West Main Street.

The beginning

In the fall of 2000, a capital campaign, with the assistance of many community members, began with the goal of purchasing the land behind the H.H. Hull property to construct a new building to house the library. Their goal was reached and the current library was constructed shortly thereafter.
